Set up your preferred payment option

Choose how your customers will pay for their booking—whether in person, through online prepayment, or by giving them the flexibility to decide.

  1. On the SumUp app, scroll down and tap “SumUp Bookings”.

  2. Tap the three bars in the top left-hand corner.

  3. Hit "Settings" and then "Payments".

  4. Choose your preferred payment method:

    • All payments - At the online checkout, allow your customers to choose whether to prepay or pay in person for a booking

    • Prepayment - Your customers prepay at the online checkout when making a booking

    • In-person payment - Your customers pay you on the day of the appointment

All prepaid appointments will be automatically accepted on your calendar.

Request upfront appointment payment

You can request payment for unpaid booked appointments directly from the booking calendar.

This helps you minimise the risk of lost revenue due to no-shows or last-minute cancellations without the need to create a separate payment link.

  1. From the SumUp app homepage, scroll down and tap "Bookings".

  2. At the top of the screen, go to "Calendar" and select the appointment you would like to request payment for.

  3. Click "Take payment", then "Send payment request".

Once you send the payment request, the customer gets an email with a checkout link valid for 24 hours to pay for the booking.

Afterwards, you will also receive an email update when the payment is either completed or if the link expired without the payment.

Customer hasn't completed the upfront payment

If the payment expires without being completed, the appointment will not be automatically cancelled.
