Why does my Business Account show a negative balance?
A negative balance happens when you spend or withdraw more money than the funds currently available. This can happen in situations such as:
When transactions require a clearing adjustment that isn’t completed immediately, and there aren’t enough funds to cover the payments once it is finalised
When you change your payout destination to an external bank account before certain transactions are fully processed
Negative balances most commonly occur with transactions involving pre-authorisations such as deposits, fuel payments, flight bookings, tools, or/and public transport fees.
Currently, negative balances are only displayed in the mobile SumUp app (iOS and Android). When using a web browser, the balance will appear as £0, even if it is actually negative.
What happens when I have a negative balance?
Usually, a negative balance will be automatically and directly taken from your payouts.
Alternatively, you can choose to top up your Business Account manually by issuing a transfer from another bank account to your SumUp card, which IBAN you can find in your profile.
